The Great Cloud of Witnesses

Fr. Lawrence Jagdfeld, O.F.M.

June 9

Daily Thought from the Saints

"Confession heals, confession justifies, confession grants pardon of sin. All hope consists in confession. In confession there is a chance for mercy. Believe it firmly, do not doubt, do not hesitate, never despair of the mercy of God."

— St. Isidore of Seville

Daily Scripture Verse

"To whom then will you compare me, that I should be like him? says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high and see: who created these? He who brings out their host by number, calling them all by name; by the greatness of his might, and because he is strong in power not one is missing."

Isaiah 40:25-26

Daily Meditation

"When we are living in the world, we can easily take on the mindset of a secular society. It is important for us to cultivate in our lives, with great care, God’s way of looking at things and life in general. His Word guides us."

— Rev. Thomas J. Donaghy

Daily Catholic Wisdom

Do not let the past disturb you. Leave everything in the Sacred Heart of Jesus and begin again with joy.

—St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta

A Prayer

Rev. Herbert Yost, C.S.C.

Dear Lord, as we go about our homes and work, let us bring your presence with us. Let us speak your peace, your grace, your mercy, and your perfect order to all we meet. Give us a fresh supply of strength to do our work. May even our smallest accomplishments bring you glory. When we are confused, guide us. When we are burned out, infuse us with the light of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

John 14:22-24

Reading

Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?” Jesus answered him, “Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words; and the word which you hear is not mine but the Father’s who sent me.”

Meditation

Keeping Jesus’ word is to keep His commands, especially the command to love as He did. But notice that we all fail at times to keep His commands. Does that mean that God will not dwell with us? It depends. Even when we fail at Jesus’ commands, there remains a command that we can keep. It is His command to repent. So, if we repent, we keep His word and the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit dwell with us.

Prayer

Keep me mindful that I fail often, so that I may repent of my sins and see the progress I still need to make. Through Christ our Lord. Amen..
