A Lenten Moment
February 22
Repent, and hear the Good News!
The ashes that are placed on our foreheads today are a reminder that God fashioned humankind from the soil and that we shall return to the soil. However, in recent years, the church has offered an optional reminder when we receive the ashes. We are told to “turn away from sin and believe in the Gospel.” This reminder connects us immediately to the message of Jesus as the very first word out of his mouth was “Repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand.” The church tells us that the Kingdom of God is now and not yet. While we live on this earth, we are surrounded by opportunities to fulfill one of the objects of our prayer; namely, “thy kingdom come.” Every time we act according to the Gospel mandates, the Kingdom of God is revealed. Made Lent be a time to fill the world with God’s Kingdom through acts of kindness.
Heavenly Father, wash away our transgressions. Made the glory of your image shine more perfectly through my flesh. Amen.
