Eye Surgery
I haven’t blogged in quite some time, but if ever there was a time to do it, it is now.
On Monday, I underwent cataract surgery on my left eye. The surgery was successful and uncomplicated. However, on Monday night, I picked a fight with the terrazzo floor. The floor won. It was necessary for the EMTs to take me to the emergency room as I was bleeding quite profusely. Unfortunately, the waiting room for the emergency department was flooded with people who had fallen on the ice or who had been involved in ice related car accidents. My wait in the waiting room was 10 ½ hours. So from 11 PM on Monday to 9:30 AM on Tuesday, I sat and waited.
I finally saw a doctor at 9:30 AM. My good friend here in Frankfurt, Dave Peters, came and picked me up and brought me home. However, I had an appointment with my ophthalmologist for 1:45 PM to check on the eye that had undergone surgery. Naturally, the doctor also took a good look at the right eye which had been swollen shut. He determined that both eyes were all right and sent me home with a prescription for some ointment
It was a very stressful two days. Now that I am back at the convent, one of the sisters is acting as my nurse and helping me with all the related issues. When I woke up this morning, my right eye had been caked shut by blood and tears. Warm water rectified that issue.
The sisters have graciously given me the full week off for which I am grateful. I will be back to work on Sunday.
