Now is the Time of Salvation
A LENTEN MOMENT
After forty years of wandering in the desert, Moses and the children of Israel reach the River Jordan. Before Moses allows them to cross over, he asks them to pitch camp and then he reviews the content of the covenant agreement with the God of Israel.
By this time, most of them had not even been born when the covenant was made. They had been taught by their parents and instructed in the keeping of God's commands. As Moses speaks to them, however, he impresses upon them that their memories of the past and their dreams of the future are not of importance as they prepare to enter the Promised Land.
Over and over again, Moses emphasizes the present.
- "This day the LORD, your God, commands you to observe these statutes and decrees."
- "Today you are making this agreement with the LORD. . ."
- "today the LORD is making this agreement with you. . ."
For us to, all that matters is today. What is my relationship with Jesus Christ today!
