Daily Thought from the Saints

"What was the first rule of our dear Savior’s life? You know it was to do His Father’s will. Well, then, the first end I propose in our daily work is to do the will of God; secondly to do it in the manner He wills; and thirdly, to do it because it is His will."

— St. Elizabeth Ann Seton

Daily Scripture Verse

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in his great mercy gave us a new birth to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you who by the power of God are safeguarded through faith, to a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the final time."

1 Peter 1:3-5

Daily Meditation

"Winnow not in every wind, and do not start off in every direction (Sirach 5:11). It is essential to discern what the Spirit wants when we are making important choices in our lives. Through prayer, fasting, spiritual reading, spiritual advice, discernment of signs, sorting out our hidden motivations, etc., we develop a sense of what God wants of us."

— Rev. Jude Winkler

Daily Catholic Wisdom

If respect for traditional morality splinters with the disappearance of God from the thoughts of men, it is equally true that belief in God collapses with the rejection of traditional moral constraints. Moral systems that in effect require the absence of a final judgment before God urge the expulsion of God from the exercise of conscience. Our own time is indicted on both counts.

A Prayer from Notre Dame University

Rev. Louis DelFra, C.S.C.

Jesus, Lamb of God, you call us to walk in your footsteps, by taking up our daily crosses, and giving our lives away in love. Help us to accept our daily burdens on behalf of others as expressions of love for you and your people. Help us to see how our acts of selfless love, inspired by you, bring your saving presence into the world. Give us the strength and generosity of spirit to carry our burdens joyfully. Amen.
