Jesus Is the Destination
Homily for Saturday in the Second Week of Easter
The Gospel story that we hear today is markedly different than those we have heard in the Gospels of Saints Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Nowhere in this text are we told that Jesus calmed the sea. We are simply told that the disciples saw Jesus walking on the water. When they wanted to bring him aboard, they found themselves added to their destination.
The application of this gospel story is devastatingly simple. If you are with Jesus or if he is in your boat, you have already reached your destination. Conversely, if Jesus is not with you, you may be in peril.
