Jesus Is Who He Says He Is
Family for Friday in the Fifth week of Lent
In today’s Gospel, the Jewish leaders sought to stone Jesus because they claimed he made himself God. But Jesus did not make himself God anymore then we made him God. Jesus simply is God – he always has been, and he always will be. He asserts today that the Father is in him and he is in the Father.
There are many who do not accept the truth about Jesus. Some choose to simply ignore him, others openly reject him, and still others want to change Jesus into someone who fits into their life choices. In all these instances, we are attempting to make ourselves gods. Every time ignore God’s commandments, every time we attempt to do that which is God’s alone to do, we forget that God is our Creator who fashioned us in God’s image. It seems that many folks are attempting to return the favor by fashioning God in their image.
When we turn to the Lord and choose to love the true God, we actually become all that we hope to be. Through union with Jesus Christ, we no longer strive to make ourselves gods. Instead, we allow God. Jesus did not come to exalt himself. Rather, Jesus came to lift us up to the right hand of the Father, where we shall live and reign with him for all eternity.
God loved us so much that he sent his only begotten son to be our Savior, to save us from ourselves.
