Saint Baculus of Sorrento, also known as Bacolo or Baccolo, was born into a noble family and initially lived a life dedicated to worldly pursuits. However, he felt a calling to devote his life to study and prayer and made the courageous decision to leave behind the comforts of his noble background. Baculus's unwavering commitment to spiritual growth led him to study theology and deepened his knowledge of the Catholic faith. He was eventually ordained as a bishop and was appointed to serve as the Bishop of Sorrento, Italy. During his tenure as bishop, Saint Baculus of Sorrento dedicated himself to the eradication of paganism within his diocese. He tirelessly worked to educate his flock and convert pagan individuals to Christianity, leading them to a more profound understanding of Jesus Christ. One notable aspect of Saint Baculus's ministry was his extraordinary ability as an exorcist. He possessed a deep understanding of the spiritual realm and was called upon to liberate individuals who were afflicted by demonic possessions. His prayers and intercession brought comfort and healing to many souls, providing them with spiritual relief. Saint Baculus of Sorrento's life was rooted in selflessness and his unyielding love for God. He practiced an austere lifestyle, often engaging in prolonged periods of prayer and fasting. His own deep spiritual experiences and personal encounters with God served as a source of inspiration and guidance for others. Upon his death on 27th August, around the year 660, Saint Baculus of Sorrento was interred within the walls of Sorrento, Italy. Recognizing his sanctity and the numerous miracles attributed to him, his remains were later re-interred in the church of San Felice in Sorrento. While Saint Baculus of Sorrento's representation is not explicitly mentioned, his life and devotion continue to inspire countless individuals. His feast day is celebrated on the 27th of August, and Sorrento, Italy has recognized him as their patron saint. Having lived a life dedicated to prayer, study, and self-sacrifice, Saint Baculus of Sorrento's teachings and intercession remind individuals of the transformative power of faith and the importance of combatting spiritual darkness. He is remembered as a shining example of holiness, leaving behind a legacy that continues to impact the Catholic Church to this day.
