St. Martin of Tours and Veterans Day

Fr. Lawrence Jagdfeld, O.F.M., Administrator

A legend tells the story of St. Martin of Tours meeting a beggar on the road. He used his sword to cut his cloak into two pieces and gave the beggar half. That night he dreamed he saw Jesus dressed in his cloak. This story is most probably the origin of many such legends, such as the legend of St. Francis of Assisi meeting the leper. November 11 is the memorial of St. Martin, a soldier who became the patron saint of soldiers. As we remember all veterans today, let us commend them to the intercession of St. Martin.

P.S. I will be preaching an eight day retreat to the Poor Clares of Evansville this week beginning tonight. I don't know what kind of facilities I will have for internet and for the CUSA web site. At any rate, I will return on November 19. If I can, I will continue blogging through the week.  Keep me and the sisters in your prayers in any event.  Thank you.
